Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback David Garrard could miss up to a month with an ankle sprain, the team announced on Wednesday.

Garrard left Monday night’s 29-7 loss against Indianapolis due to a sprained left ankle. He suffered the injury after being sacked by Ed Johnson with under 12 minutes left in the first half. Johnson’s helmet collided with Garrard’s ankle.

Quinn Gray replaced Garrard and threw an interception to Bob Sanders later in the possession.

Garrard came back the next time Jacksonville got the ball with 5:25 remaining in the half, but was unable to move his team past midfield and the Jaguars trailed 17-0 at intermission. Gray was back under center for the remainder of the contest, and completed just 9-of-24 passes for 56 yards and a pair of picks.

The East Carolina product had an MRI exam on the ankle Tuesday and Jags head coach Jack Del Rio classified the damage as a high-ankle sprain at Wednesday’s press conference.

“David will be out this week and it looks like, at the minimum, he’ll be out a couple of weeks and potentially it could be as much as a month,” said Del Rio.

Gray will get the nod this Sunday when the Jaguars face the Buccaneers.

“We’ll elevated Quinn,” Del Rio added. “We’ll rally around Quinn and do our best as a football team to compete.”

The Jaguars start a stretch of three straight road games on Sunday at Tampa Bay. They will also play New Orleans and Tennessee during the stretch.
